Don't worry about coping it exactly. Put it in a way that you'll remember. BLACK - You need to write this down. It is important. If you can find a way to write it using less words that okay, but make sure you are getting this information in your notes. The Umayyad Dynasty * In the Umayyad Dynasty caliph rule was passed down within the family. * They moved the capital from Medina to Damascus and the caliph ruled more like a king. * The caliphate reaches its greatest size. Their armies conquered North African and Spain.

The Abbasid Dynasty * The Abbasid Dynasty overthrew the Umayyad Dynasty in 750 AD. * They build a new capital of Baghdad (is located in present day Iraq). Baghdad became the center of art, science and learning. * The Abbasid Dynasty became known as the Golden Age because of the accomplishments in art, architecture and literature. * During their time in power they expanded the government of the Abbasid and opened up government services to non-Arabs.

The End of the Abbasid Rule * In 756 Spain fought and became independent of the Abbasid caliphate. * This weakened the Abbasid hold in Europe. * In the 900s AD Turkish tribes invade Abbasid territory and take over Baghdad. * In the 1200s Mongols attacked Baghdad and massacred the caliphate that was still there.
