Case Studies Biochemistry
Patient A • Patient A recently went on an overseas voyage. During his trip, he felt tired and nauseated. He recently cut herself and the wound is not healing. His teeth are becoming loose and his gums are bleeding. • What is your diagnosis? • What do you prescribe?
Patient B • Patient B just arrived in the emergency room and her nose will not stop bleeding! This happens frequently to this patient – She also hemorrhages (bleeds profusely) every time she gets a cut. Why do you think her blood does not clot?
Patient C • Patient C is a three year old child with obvious inadequate bone growth. His legs are deformed, or bowed, and many of his teeth have not come in. Analysis of a bone sample shows that his bones are very weak. • What is your diagnosis?
Patient D • Patient D is a pregnant woman who came to your office because she feels tired and cold all of the time. You drew a blood sample for analysis and discovered that she does not have an adequate number of red blood cells, which provide oxygen to the body. • What supplement do you prescribe?
Patient E • Patient E is a teenager with an enlarged thyroid gland in his neck. After you question him about the food he eats, you are convinced that he is lacking an inorganic substance in his diet. • What supplement should he take?
Patient F • Patient F describes her emotional state as ‘sad and sensitive.’ She has developed sores on her face, particularly on her tongue. She claims that she is getting weaker every day and has started to find small skin lesions (sores) on her body.
