  12. Introductory/Topic Sentence Sample Body Paragraph Statement In the dramatic text “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, Tybalt and Romeo are similar because they both value loyalty. Tybalt shows that he values loyalty by honouring his family. One piece of evidence that proves Tybalt values loyalty is when, upon seeing Romeo at the Capulet party, he states,“What dares the slave Come hither covered with an antic face To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honour of my kin, To strike him dead I hold it not a sin” (Shakespeare 55).This statement shows that Tybalt is loyal to his family because he is willing to commit murder to protect their honour. It can be assumed that he thinks loyalty is important because the sole reason for his anger is seeing a member of an opposing family in his house.Similarly, Romeo values loyalty, but unlike Tybalt, who shows this value by being loyal to his family, Romeo shows he values loyalty by honouring Juliet’s wishes to make their relationship exclusive. When the couple meets outside Juliet’s room after the Capulet party, Juliet asks Romeo to swear his love to her, to which he responds by asking her for “Th’ exchange of thy love’s faithful vow for mine” (Shakespeare 77). This shows Romeo values loyalty because he is willing to take make a very big commitment to Juliet despite having only known her a few hours. This commitment comes easily to him because he thinks loyalty is important. So although they show it in different ways, Romeo and Tybalt both value loyalty. Quote Concluding Sentence Analysis

  13. Step Six – Concluding Paragraph • Create a concluding paragraph: 1= Re-state subtopics. Identify the three subtopics you first stated in your introductory paragraph. 2= Re-state thesis. Your statement of fact which you first stated in your introductory paragraph and proved throughout the body paragraphs. 3=Concluding sentences. Your final sentence is a “so what” statement, or a big final idea you are leaving your readers with. • THERE ARE NO QUOTATIONS IN THE CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH!

  14. Sample Concluding Paragraph Re-state subtopics In conclusion, Mrs. Smith and Captain Horsebottom both show that they value animals when they help save animals. Mrs Smith shows she values sewing when she fixes the socks and she shows that she values flowers when she spends seven hours picking them. Captain Horsebottom shows that he values his army when he refuses to let his army die. He shows that he values his pipe when he kills another solider just to keep his pipe with him. Mrs. Smith in "The Small Boat" and Captain Horsebottom in "The Pretty Little Horse" are similar because they both value animals, whereas they are different because Mrs. Smith values sewing and flowers and Captain Horsebottom values his army and his pipe. Therefore, two people with totally different values teach people that valuing animals is very important. Re-state thesis Concluding sentence
