I am now ready to live a Spirit-filled life…but before you prepare to receive… …Remember the lesson of Simon...
Act 8:14-16 When the apostles in Jerusalem received the report that Samaria had accepted God's Message, they sent Peter and John down to pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit. Up to this point they had only been baptized in the name of the Master Jesus; the Holy Spirit hadn't yet fallen on them.
Act 8:17-18 Then the apostles laid their hands on them and they did receive the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw that the apostles by merely laying on hands conferred the Spirit, he pulled out his money, excited,
Act 8:19 and said, "Sell me your secret! Show me how you did that! How much do you want? Name your price!"
Act 8:20-22 Peter said, "To hell with your money! And you along with it. Why, that's unthinkable--trying to buy God's gift! Eph 3:18-19 you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.
Eph 3:20 God can do anything, you know--far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.
