What is parking? parking space is a location that is designated for parking, either paved or unpaved. Parking spaces can be in a parking garage, in a parking lot or on a city street. It is usually designated by a white-paint-on-tar rectangle indicated by three lines at the top, left and right of the designated area. The automobile fits inside the space. www.Engg-Know.com

Orientation of the parking lotParking wherever possible should be sited in relationship to the circulation and access of the adjacent parking area to maximize the convenience and safety of vehicular and pedestrian movement within the site. www.Engg-Know.com
Parking best categories: • Whenever employees parking lots are combined with customers, employees are more encouraged to park in more remote spaces to allow the customers to be closer to the building. • Parking in the front and the sides:should not be considered especially with corner lots because the pedestrian movement from the sidewalk to the cars and to the entrance should be pleasant and safe • Parking in the rear: parking whenever possible should be in the rear of the building, the lots should be landscaped and easily accessible for vehicles and pedestrians www.Engg-Know.com

Shading for cars • 1- Natural shading (( Using trees)) • 2- Artificial shading (( Using built-in sunshades)) www.Engg-Know.com
Natural shading • Rules for natural shading: • 1. If a site has two or more unconnected parking areas, shade is calculated separately for each area. If they are connected by a joining drive, they are calculated as one lot. • 2. The amount of shade provided by a given tree is determined by using the appropriate percentage and square footage of the tree crown as indicated on the approved shade tree list (see Appendix A). Shading credit is given in 25 percent increments based on the amount of the tree crown that shades the parking area (see Exhibit A). • 3. Overlapping shade does not count twice. Street trees and existing on-site trees that shade parking lots will be given credit. • 4. Provide shade calculations and shade legend. The planting plan may be used as the shade plan provided all required information is listed and the trees are drawn to scale at the size indicated on the approved shade list (see Appendix A). www.Engg-Know.com
Artificial Sunshades • Is the less preferred choice regarding to it’s inconvenience comparing to Natural shading where there should be building material used and it will require columns that will occupy the space, but sometimes sunshades are designed especially to fulfill aesthetic view or to serve some needs www.Engg-Know.com
