Thyroxine & triiodothyronine
Information Triiodothyronine is a thyroid hormone that plays vital roles in the body’s metabolic rate, heart and digestive functions, muscle control, brain development and the maintenance of bones.
More info • The hormone is produced in the thyroid gland • Thyroxin and triiodothyronine , is controlled by a feedback system involving the hypothalamus , pituitary gland and thyroid gland • Activation of thyroid hormones is then controlled in body tissues such as the liver, brain and kidneys by enzymes called deiodinases which convert thyroxine into the active form triiodothyronine.
Main function Thyroxine’s principal function is to stimulate the consumption of oxygen and thus the metabolism of all cells and tissues in the body
Thyroxine (thy) occurs only in the hormone protein thyroglobulinI=iodine
Symptoms • Excessive secretion of thyroxine in the body is known as hyperthyroidism, and the deficient secretion of it is called hypothyroidism
