Study of energetic potential to produce biodiesel from microalgae.Mariel Véliz V., Eva Soto A. Environmental Civil Engineer, Playa Ancha University. Chile General Objective To analyze the capacity of the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris to be used in the production of biodiesel. Specific objectives To identify that geographical zones of Chile are mas adapted for the culture of this microalga, and the means of cultures. To analyze the environmental and economic advantages of this type of production, to establish comparisons with other types of cultures. To analyze the international and national regulation for the production and utilization of biodiesel, to know the juridical in force frame by which this type of fuel is ruled. To realize to laboratory scale the analyses for the extraction of oil and production of biodiesel from Chlorella vulgaris. To analyze the properties of the oil and biodiesel obtained, according to the national and international regulation Power & Energy Workshop, The Science Behind Energy Assurance SEPARI, ONRG, ITC Valparaiso, 2009

Results & Indicators With the present study one expects to deliver precedents on the potential of the microalgae to be used as raw material in Biodiesel's production. To obtain information on the quantity of oil that can be obtained of the microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris), besides the proportion of solvents mas adapted for this extraction. To identify geographically that zones of Chile are suitable for the culture of this microalgae. Also one expects to promote the use of renewable not conventional Energies of the second generation, which are amicable with the environment and do not compromise the food supply.
