  2. Trapezoid – quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides called bases. Nonparallel sides are called legs. • Base angles are formed by a base and a leg Base angle bases legs

  3. Isosceles trapezoid – legs are congruent • In every isosceles trapezoid • 1. each pair of base angles are congruent • 2. diagonals are congruent

  4. Coordinate geometry • To determine that a quadrilateral is a trapezoid: • 1. show that one pair of sides is parallel using the slope formula

  5. To determine that a quadrilateral is an isosceles trapezoid: • 1. use the distance formula to show the legs are congruent.

  6. Median of a trapezoid • The segment joining the midpoints of the legs of a trapezoid. • The median of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases and is ½ the sum of the measures of the bases (the average of the bases).
