IELTS Speaking Test Part 2 • At the start of part 2, the examiner will say. “Now in this part, I’m going to give you a topic and I’d like you to talk about it for 1 to 2 minutes. Before you talk, you’ll have one minute to think about what you’re going to say. You can make some notes if you wish. Do you understand? Here is a pencil and some paper for making notes and here is your topic.”
IELTS Speaking Test Individual Talk • The topics are many and various and may include many things about your personal life: best friend, an older person you know, an exciting time you had when traveling, a shop you know well, a gift you received, your favorite book, a book that you really liked, a time when you were scared, a time when people congratulated you, someone you know who is good at studying, etc…
IELTS Speaking Test Individual Talk • The examiner will give you a booklet with your topic and some ideas about what to say about your topic. The examiner will also give you a blank piece of paper to make notes with. After letting you think and make notes for 1 minute, the examiner will ask you to begin speaking. You should try to speak for a full 2 minutes until the examiner says to stop.
IELTS Speaking Test Part 2 : Structure • In this part, it’s a good idea to try and structure your speech. For example: “Today I want to tell you about my favorite book. There are three main reasons why I think Journey to the West is my favorite. The first is….” • If you can think of 3 reasons or 3 points or 4 qualities or 2 ideas, etc… This will impress the examiner.
IELTS Speaking Test Part 2:Structure • For some topics, it may be difficult to come up with 3 reasons, or 4 points or whatever. • If that is the case, try for a story in chronological order or organize it in some other way. If your speech is in random order, it will likely not make as strong an impression on the examiner. • Another thing to keep in mind for this part would be vocabulary. Perhaps as you think in the 1 minute of preparation time, you can write down good vocabulary words to use in your speech.
IELTS Speaking Test Part 2:Topics • The topic paper will say thing like: Describe a journey you took that took more time than you expected. • You should mention: Where you were going. What caused you to be delayed. How the delay made you feel.
IELTS Speaking Test Part 2Examples • Another example: Describe a sporting event you went to or saw on TV. Include some of the following information: Who was playing in the sporting match. Where it was held. How watching the match made you feel.
Things to remember in Part 2 • Try to keep talking as long as possible. If you finish too early, the examiner will ask you to keep talking. After you finish your long speech, the examiner may ask one or two follow-up questions. You can answer these with a short answer.
