A Community InSAR Working Group: Organizing from a Satellite Perspective Jeanne Sauber, Oxnard California Oct. 21, 2004
This workshop - Community Components • Crustal Deformation • Cryosphere • Hydrology • Oceanography • Land Cover • Planetary • Atmosphere? • IT and Synthesis • Ed. / Outreach
Possible Follow-on Subcommittees • Define scientific and programmatic vision. • Identify mission opportunities and relates these to science vision. • Increase access to existing InSAR data sets. • Educate the next generation of scientists to be able to fully exploit InSAR observations. • Advocate for use of InSAR data through written documents, as well as through talks, briefings, and scientific exchange. • Coordinate with national and international agencies.
Scientific Committee • Identify key science questions to be addressed with InSAR data. • Establish an international InSAR community with broad discipline representation in Earth and Planetary science. • Convene workshops and meeting sessions to report new InSAR applications and technological advances.
Mission Opportunities Committee • Be aware of mission opportunities, communicate them to group. • Define a mission based on the science objectives. This will include development of science requirements and definition of mission architecture. • Work with agency mission team to develop software and data product requirements. What higher level products should be produced?
SAR Data Committee • Gain access to historical data. • Access to new data from existing missions. • Formation of W(orld)InSAR. • Real time response, setting up architecture for requesting data acquisition. • Scientific community input in early stages of mission planning. • How to interact with commercial providers?
Education and Outreach Committee • Educate new students and users through workshops and summer schools. • Provide opportunities for young scientists to participate in InSAR research - postdocs, new investigator program • Develop education modules for SAR technology and data. • Develop education and outreach plan for InSAR mission.
Planning Committee • Advocacy group for InSAR missions and research. • Visit agency heads and politically influential persons who can make a mission happen. • Energize community at appropriate and critical times.
Coordination Committee (?) • Coordinate with national and international activities and programs - IPY, EarthScope, USGS earthquake and volcano hazards program, Global Earth Observation (GEO) process…
Goals of Community Organization Facilitate InSAR research!! • Define and advocate an InSAR program. • Develop and foster an international InSAR community, which includes users and developers. • Educate and support new scientists. • Maximize use of existing missions and data.
