National Occupational Standards first draft by FENTO in 2004 input from practitioners, employers and other stakeholders about role & responsibilities approved in 2009 describe skills, knowledge and understanding of all those who perform a learning support role aim to professionalise workforce and underpin new qualifications

Learning Support Practitioner • works directly with the learners • within the learning process • under the direction of the person(s) leading the learning.
Two types of pathway generalist role specialist roles - a particular learning need - a particular subject area - a particular context
Specialist roles prioritised supporting learner with literacy, language and numeracy skills supporting learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LLDD)

Level 3 Certificate in Learning Support minimum credit value of 30, max 36 4 mandatory units each worth 6 credits optional units totalling a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 credits the majority of credits must be at Level 3 guided learning hours 100-150 30 hrs learning support practice 3 hrs assessed on at least 3 occasions no entry requirements
Level 2/3 Award in Preparing to Support Learning • 30 GLH • involvement in I hr of micro learning support - 15 mins observed - 45 mins observation of others as they undertake their micro learning practice

L3 Certificate in Learning Support (LLN) 36 credits 150 guided learning hours 6 mandatory units Level 2 skills to be evidenced on entry 40 hrs learning support (10 lit/lang, 10 num) 4 hrs observation over at least 4 occasions
Ascentis – L2/3 Award • delivery period over 4 weeks minimum • 3 elements to assessment - summary of learning support role • a 15 min micro learning support session • reflection and evaluation of own session and sessions led by others • centre-devised assessment possible
