School Improvement Plan Goals • 100% of students will qualify for general education courses at the community college level. • 100% of JP Knapp Early College Staff will become knowledgeable about the Common Core Curriculum. • Every student at JP Knapp Early College High school will have an appropriate personal relationship with an adult. • Every student at the JP Knapp Early College High school will experience success in all virtual high school and college courses. • Every staff member and student at the JP Knapp Early College High school will become proficient users of technology.
Smart Goal #1 Results & Next Steps 100% of students will qualify for general education courses at the local community college level. Results • 2011-12 total enrollment in grades 10-12 = 172 • Grade 10: 54 /62 • Grade 11: 34/39 • Grade 12: 70/71 • 92% of students in grades 10-12 qualified to take a general education course at COA • 9th graders do not take college courses Next Steps • Continue to use formative assessments to identify academically at-risk students • Develop lessons to use in seminar to prepare students for the ASSET test • Offer multiple opportunities throughout the year (and summer) for students to take the ASSET placement test • Look at alternatives to the ASSET (SAT/ACT) scores to identify students who may qualify

Results • Early College teachers participated in both district-wide and state-wide professional development regarding Common Core. • Early College staff have worked in PLC’s to develop curriculum maps and pacing guides incorporating the new standards. Next Steps • Continue to familiarize ourselves with the changes to curriculum • Attend any and all opportunities for PD • Work within our PLC’s to develop new lessons focused on the new curriculum and incorporating the Common Six Instructional Strategies
Smart Goal #3 Results & Next StepsEvery student at JP Knapp Early College High school will have an appropriate personal relationship with an adult. Results • Seminar (advisor/advisee) was tweaked so that staff would loop with students; thus a student would develop a relationship with that staff member over their four or five years at Knapp. Next Steps • Continue to frontload personalization strategies through “Meet and Greet,” “Spartan Summer Camp,” “Home Visits,” and parent information sessions • Continue to schedule extracurricular activities such as summer ECU trip, ECU Football Game trip, Washington DC trip • Continue to build academic seminar into the master schedule for all students • Continue to collect survey data from students regarding personalization • Continue to use PLC time in an effort to improve personalization in our school

Results • Fall 2011 • 269 total college courses taken • 201 passed w/ “C” or better (Grade of “C” needed to transfer) • 75% transferrable credit pass rate • 181 NCVPS courses taken; 91% pass rate • Spring 2012 • 361 total college courses taken • 319 passed w/ “C” or better • 88% transferrable credit pass rate • 114 NCVPS courses taken; 90% pass rate Next Steps • Continue to encourage students to take additional NCVPS courses in the Spring and Summer • Monitor closely students enrolled in online college courses • Continue to work with COA to expand course offerings • Continue to collect student data in all online courses • Continue ASSET Testing for all students who have not placed into COA course (Feb 09-10) • Continue to implement required weekly “Office Hours” with students who attend classes at COA.

Results • Students all are issued netbooks • Mounted SMART Boards have been installed in all classrooms • Data from classroom walkthroughs indicates technology being used 58/66 observations. • Teachers are using Moodle, Edmodo, etc. for course delivery alternatives • Website is frequently updated and contains useful information Next Steps • Further investigate the seamless inclusion of technology into instruction • Additional SMART board training • Staff will familiarize themselves with Parent Assist Module
