  4. Discharging Bookdrop • Used to discharge items left in the bookdrop or when the library is closed. • Use this wizard to check in multiple items left in the bookdrop and backdate their date of discharge. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  5. Ephemeral • Used to check out impermanent materials to a library user. • Libraries may have items that they want to circulate, but do not want to track for overdue notices or billing purposes. • Impermanent materials can include items such as donated paperbacks and pamphlets.   6. Checkout & Discharging • The Checkout wizard is used to check out items to a library user. • The Discharge/Checkin wizard is used to check in items returned to the library by the user Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  7. Fine Free Discharge • Used to check in items for which you do not want to collect fines, such as if your library has a designated fine free day. • Fines and suspensions are not assessed to the user. • The wizard performs all other discharge functions (such as transits, check for holds, and update item records) Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  8. Renew User • Used to renew a single item or all items for a user. • A ”seen” renewal means the item is physically present for the renewal. • An ”unseen” renewal means the item is not physically present, such as when items are renewed by telephone. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  9. Renew Item • Used to renew a single checked out item. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  10. Billing a User • Used to issue a bill to a user. • Patrons can accrue bills for library services or overdue items. • Bills can be created automatically if defined in the user configuration library policies or created manually. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  11. Paying Bills • Used to pay user bills. • Payment information displays in the Payment column Ontario Library Service - North 2009

Library Calendar • Used by library staff members to display and modify the closed days/dates for their individual library. • Staff members will only have access to the calendar for their library. • The wizard displays the calendar for the library linked to the user’s login.   14. Display/Register/Modify User • The Display User wizard is used to display an existing user record. • The New User Registration wizard is used to register a new user for your library. • The Modify User wizard is used to change an existing user record. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  15. Copy User • Used to create a new user record by copying existing user information. • Especially useful when registering an entire family where address information is the same. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  16. Confirm Address • The Confirm Address wizard is used to confirm or update a user address while checking out an item. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  17. Renew Privilege • The Renew Privilege wizard is used to renew or extend a user’s library privileges. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  18. Suspend User • Used to suspend a user’s loan privileges when overdue materials are returned rather than assess overdue fines. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  19. Unsuspend User • Used to unsuspend individual suspended users. • You can forgive or cancel the suspension by a particular number of days or waive it completely. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  20. Send User Message • Used to send a message or reply to a request to a specific user. • Not an email message. • Users can access this through the User Services choice in the library OPAC. (iBistro) Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  21. Remove User • Used to remove a user record from the catalog. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  22. Items Wizards • Add Brief Title • Mark Item Missing • Mark Item Lost • Edit Item Ontario Library Service - North 2009

Add Brief Title • Used when you need to circulate an item that has not been fully cataloged, or does not need to be fully cataloged. • Creates a brief record (brief title, call number, or item to the catalog) to circulate the item. • When discharged, the item can be routed to cataloging so that the full record can replace the brief record, if a full record is needed.   24. Mark Item Missing • Used to check out an item in the catalog to MISSING. • Marking an item as missing indicates that the item may not be lost. • Charging the item to MISSING alerts staff and shadows (hides) the item from the public to prevent futile efforts to locate this item. Mark Item Lost • Used to mark an item in the catalog as Lost and change the item’s current location to LOST-CLAIM without discharging the item from the patron’s record. • Shadows the item in the catalog so that other users will not inquire about the item • Prevents holds from being placed on the lost item Ontario Library Service - North 2009

Mark Item Lost – cont’d When an item is marked as Lost, the system: • Shadows the item in the catalog so that other users will not inquire about the item • Prevents holds from being placed on the lost item • Prevents items from being recalled or used to satisfy a hold Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  27. Mark Item Lost – cont’d • Keeps the item on the patron’s record until the lost item bill is paid, forgiven, or waived, or item is returned to the library • Maintains the current location of LOST-CLAIM until the item returns to circulation Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  28. Edit Item • Allows you to modify the item-level information only. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  30. Place Holds • The Place Hold wizard is used to place holds on library materials. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  31. Display/Modify/Remove User Holds • Used to display, modify, and/or remove all holds placed by a specific user. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  32. Display Title Holds • Lists and summarizes all Title level holds placed on a title. • Provides various hold counts and item counts to help you determine how many Title level holds of various ranges are on a title, as well as how many items attached to a title can be used to fill holds.   33. Display Item Holds • The Display Item Holds wizard is used to display a list of all holds placed on a specific item. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  34. Modify and Remove Item Holds • The Modify Item Holds wizard is used to modify one or more holds on an item. • The Remove Item Hold wizard is used to remove a hold placed on a specific item. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  35. Place Blanket Holds • A blanket hold is a single hold placed on multiple titles or items, and requires a specified number of items be available before the hold is considered filled • Allows you to select up to 50 items and/or titles for a blanket hold. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  37. User Claims Returned • User receives an overdue notice, but claims to have returned the materials earlier. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  38. User Lost Card • The User Lost Card wizard is used to replace a user’s lost library card. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  39. Modify Due Dates • The Modify Due Dates wizard is used to modify an item’s due date. • Library can choose to extend an item’s due date temporarily if the user is unable to return the materials by the original due date. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  40. Mark Items Used • Used to mark an item as Used. • Items retrieved from various areas of the library, such as the Reference section, can be marked as used for statistical purposes. • Items are not actually charged. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  41. Inventory Item • Used to create a physical inventory list of items by entering item IDs. • Updates the Times Inventoried counter and the Date Inventoried field in the item record. Ontario Library Service - North 2009

  44. Receive Transits • The Receive Items in Transit wizard is used to take items in transit to your library out of transit. Ontario Library Service - North 2009
