Today Works Cited Table of Contents • John Fitzgeral Kennedy • The Trip • The Trip (cont...)‏ • The Assassination • The Conspiracy/ The Magic Bullet Theory/ Multiple Shooters • Important Locations • The Texas Book School Depo • The Grassy Knoll • The Elm St. Sewer

  3. John Fitzgerald Kennedy • The 35th President of the United States • Born into a family of politicians • Controversial because of the Bay of Pigs Invasion, Cold War dealings, and Cuban Missile Crisis

  4. The Trip to Dallas • Kennedy arrived in Dallas on November 21, 1963 • Traveled to Texas for a five city tour for a few reasons: • Lost the 1960 vote in Texas during the Presidential Campaign and wanted to increase his public image in Texas • Starting his campaign for the 1964 election • The Kennedy/Johnson ticket was not particularly popular in the 1960 election and wanted to make themselves more popular with those in Dallas

  5. Trip To Dallas (cont...)‏

  6. The Assassination

  7. The Conspiracy • There are many theories as to who truly killed Kennedy • The Magic Bullet Theory • Multiple shooters/ Multiple locations • Many are not sure what to believe because nobody can identify how many shots were fired • Also, the “back and to the left” theory • A lot of people claim that Oswald couldn't be the lone shooter because Kennedy's head went back and to the left when he was hit, if he were shot from the TSBD, his head would have gone forward and to the right.

  8. The Magic Bullet Theory • Theory that one shot hit both Kennedy and Gov. Connely.

  9. The Magic Bullet (cont...)‏

  10. Multiple Shooters • Many people believe that there were more shooters than just Oswald that day • This gives way to the theory of a conspiracy, because now we have to figure out who else had reason to kill Kennedy • There are many theories as to who would possibly want Kennedy dead due to different political dealings

  11. Important Locations of the Assassination • The following are three possible locations where the shooters could have possibly shot from: • The Texas School Book Depository • The Grassy Knoll • The sewer on Elm St.

  12. The Texas School Book Depository • This is the most famous location • Oswald supposedly shot from the 6th Story of the TSBD • Would have given him a rear shot at President Kennedy, giving way to the idea of the “Magic Bullet Theory”

  13. The Grassy Knoll • The Grassy Knoll is an area on the same side of the street as the TSBD • Many people claim that shots came from a wall in the Grassy Knoll • KhrushchevCastroBadgeman,Hoffa

  14. The Elm Street Sewer • Sewer just past the Freeway Sign • Would have given the shooter a perfect view of Kennedy and would have caused the “Back and to the left” phenomena • Khrushchev, Castro, Hoffa, Hoover

  15. Possible Shooters/ Conspirators • The following are a list of possible shooters/conspirators and the reasons for which they may have wanted President Kennedy dead

  16. Lee Harvey Oswald • The most famous person in the conspiracy • The shooter from the Texas School Book Depository • Some claim that there is picture evidence that Oswald was actually standing in front of the TBSD during the shooting • Was apprehended two hours after the shooting, in the mean time he had shot Officer Tibbits • Shot to death two days later as he was being transported to a new facility for protection

  17. Jack Ruby • Local strip club owner • Club was believed to be controlled by the mafia • Many believe that he was sent to kill Oswald in order to silence him from talking because of mob ties to the assassination

  18. Lyndon B. Johnson • Vice President of the United States • Didn't like the Kennedy's • Was going to be dropped from the 1964 Presidential election as Vice President • Had been attempting to gain the party nomination

  19. “Badgeman” • No one knows whether “Badgeman” really exists • An outline of a figure is thought to exist above the wall in the Grassy Knoll • Some theorists say that Tibbits is the badgeman. Tibbits was a police officer who was killed by Oswald after the assassination.

  20. Nikita Khrushchev • President of the U.S.S.R. • Khrushchev was embarrassed by Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis • Kennedy had also made Khrushchev back down in Berlin

  21. Fidel Castro • Dictator of Cuba • Was infuriated with the United States because on three separate occasions the government had tried to overthrow or kill him • Kennedy had also imposed a trade embargo on Cuba in 1962

  22. Secret Service • Probably the most likely of scenarios would have been the secret services involvement. There are two possibilities here: • Kennedy often used the Secret Service to take him to and from his meeting places with Marylin Monroe, who he was carrying out an affair with • The day before the parade, the route was changed to incorporate the turn onto Elm St. • The head of the Secret Service was sent out of the country • In the book Mortal Error: The Shot that Killed JFK, the author Bonar Menninger claims that Secret Service agent George Hickey accidentally killed JFK while attempting to return fire on the gunman

  23. J. Edgar Hoover • The first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation • Kennedy was going to force Hoover to retire as Director of FBI because he was about to turn 70 years old.

  24. Jimmy Hoffa/ Mafia • Jimmy Hoffa was the infamous leader of the Mafia • Kennedy's father, Joseph, and influential government official got John support from the Mafia during the election in return for not going after the mafia • John and Robert were attempting to go after Hoffa in Court

  25. The Assassination Today • The information I've given you today is just a small amount of theory behind this ever changing event. • In recent years more theories have come out, some have been debunked, some still remain a mystery. • Files containing information on the assassination were locked in a vault and set to be released at a future date. The release date is supposed to be within the next five to ten years. • Is still one of the greatest historical mysteries
