  2. The D.C. Appropriations Act, 2000 (P.L. 106-113, 113 Stat.1501,1532 (1999) mandated that the US Government Accounting Office (GAO) study and report on the DC criminal justice system In March 2001 the GAO released the report, entitled DC Criminal Justice System, Better Coordination Needed Among Participating Agencies, which recommended the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council as a necessary venue for the District's criminal justice agencies to identify and address interagency public safety issues CJCC History 3

  3. CJCC History Contd.. • In 2001, the DC Council implemented this recommendation by enacting DC Code §22-4232 which created the CJCC as an independent agency of the District of Columbia. The statute designated the Mayor as the chair of the CJCC and listed the agencies under the District Government that should participate • Congress passed legislation (PL 107-180) the following year authorizing a federal payment and authorizing the heads of federal agencies to participate as members

  4. CJCC is dedicated to continually improving the administration and execution of public safety and criminal justice in the District of Columbia. The agency provides a federal/district partnership, which is united in resolving concerns of our citizens about crime and justice. Who is CJCC? 5

CJCC MISSION The mission of the CJCC is to serve as the forum for identifying issues and their solutions, proposing actions, and facilitating cooperation that will improve public safety and the related criminal and juvenile justice services for District of Columbia residents, visitors, victims, and offenders.

  13. Who is CSOSA? CSOSA is an independent federal agency created by the National Capital Revitalization and Self-Government Improvement Act of 1997 CSOSA has the operational responsibilities for Probation, Parole, and Supervised Release within the District of Columbia
