1846: Repeal of Corn Laws Corn Laws: imposed heavy duties on importation of grain
1847: Ten Hours Act restricted working hours of children in factories
1853-1856: Crimean War War fought on the Crimean Peninsula between Russians and the British, French, and Ottoman Turkish. The war arose from conflict of powers in Middle East, and was settled with the Treaty of Paris which guaranteed the integrity of Ottoman Turkey and Russia to surrender Bessarabia.
