Contrast Creon and Antigone’s views of loyalty throughout the play. What conclusions can we draw about the playwright’s overall message regarding loyalty?
Antigone makes the statement in scene 2: “It is my nature to join in love, not hate.” Do you agree with that? Why/why not? What is the playwright’s message in this statement and how does he develop it? Consider how Oedipus’ illicit love affects the plot.
Analyze how the chorus’ and choragus’ attitude toward Antigone changed from the beginning to the end of the play? How do they view her act of conscience? What feelings do they convey?
Who is the tragic hero according to the Greek definition? You must choose either Creon or Antigone and provide evidence from throughout the play to show all parts of the tragic hero definition. Also consider the purpose of Greek tragedies in general for the audience.
