Description of Need • In Congo, disabled children often left to beg on the streets • Many are polio survivors • No government support Rotary International
About Stand Proud • Rotary is supporting Congolese non-profit “Stand Proud” • Stand Proud workshops make braces and crutches locally, enabling disabled people to stand upright • Most Stand Proud workers are former recipients of braces • Stand Proud founded by American USAID worker Jay Nash Rotary International
Activities with TRF Grant(2010 – 2013) • 198 sets of braces made • 46 crutches made • 207 shoe upgrades done • 645 repairs Rotary International
Beneficiaries • Most recipients 5-25 years old • Most recipients are polio victims • Builders are usually also recipients Rotary International
Funding Sources • Fargo Rotary Club $2,000 • FMAM, Fargo West, Moorhead RC $1,500 • District 5580 $3,500 • RC Kinshasa – Binza (Congo) $1,000 • The Rotary Foundation $7,500 • TOTAL $15,500 Rotary International
