Introduction • VPH is defined as the contributions to the physical, mental and social well-being of humans through an understanding and application of veterinary science [WHO/FAO/OIE definition 1999]. • Human health, animal husbandry and animal health are closely connected and VPH is a fundamental part of public health whereby human health and well-being are the main objectives. • VPH is multidisciplinary and contributes to many areas of public health that are not always related to animals. VPH - CPD AIMS • The Veterinary Public Health (VPH) continuing professional development (CPD) project is an initiative of the VPH unit of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). • The aim is to develop and deliver continuing professional education and capacity development to veterinarians and others professionals working in VPH related fields. VPH - CPD AIMS • VPH –CPD has been developed in response to demands for appropriate training courses to enhance the skills, and professional competencies of practitioners, in developing countries that do not have effective programmes of continuing education. • VPH -CPD contributes towards the key objective of the FAO VPH unit of strengthening national veterinary public health systems and services.
