    2. How to Safely Travel in a Vehicle #1 – The safest method is to transfer from the wheelchair to a vehicle seat and then use the vehicle safety restraint system. The wheelchair should then be stored and secured in the vehicle.

    3. How to Safely Travel in a Vehicle #2 – If transferring is not feasible, secure the wheelchair to the vehicle facing forward. Use crash-tested seatbelts for wheelchair seated riders.

    4. Step 1: Use the Correct Equipment! The Wheelchair – Ensure the wheelchair has been designed and tested for use as a seat in motor vehicles (WC19 wheelchair or a transit wheelchair) If unavailable, the next choice is a wheelchair with an accessible metal frame where tiedown straps and hooks can be attached at frame junctions.
