Presentation • This is your opportunity to show the community and school what you have accomplished and that you are ready to graduate. • Prepared to be a contributing member of society • You only get ONE chance to make a good first impression… • Statistics show that it takes up to 10 future positive interactions to change a negative first impression
Presentation • Put a smile on your face even if you are nervous • Keep the presentation positive • Focus on your accomplishments – avoid negatives • Most people are not aware of mistakes other people make – don’t draw attention to your previous mistakes • Being prepared will reduce your anxiety
Presentation • Plan ahead – Be Professional • Professional dress • Wash & iron your clothes… They should notlook like they came from under your bed, the back of your closet, wadded up, or from between your mattresses… • You want to look clean, fresh, prepared, confident, relaxed… • Professional language • Professionalism = Confident, Prepared • Remember, you only get ONE first impression…
Presentation • Be prepared! Practice! Do not READ your notes or the screen – Face & talk/present to your audience. • The more interesting you make your presentation, the higher the score you will receive YEAH!!! • You want to leave your audience asking questions – tell them just enough to make them curious
Presentation • Presentation background/layout • Should be consistent – reflects professional attitude • Should also reflect your personality/interests • Use photographs and graphics only as necessary • Can find cool backgrounds on Internet (don’t waste a lot of time on this, however) • Can customize background if you want – what ever you decide, be consistent • Use consistent transitions – more professional • Do not use sounds for transitions

Academics Arts & Awards Citizenship Employability Future Plans Mentorship Portfolio • Before you begin, Plan… Decide what you will include in your presentation… • Gather all of your materials and schedule a time to scan in documents, images, etc. • Best time to scan is during 2nd, 4th & 7th periods • Take digital photos of larger projects – upload to folder • Planning ahead and being prepared will save you considerable time and will help you feel more organized and in control

Academics Arts & Awards Citizenship Employability Future Plans Mentorship Portfolio • Before you begin, Plan… Decide where you will integrate and present your portfolio and board… • What is the logical place to integrate each of them into your presentation? • Planning will help your presentation flow and appear more organized = higher score
Academics • Class Schedule • DO NOT read this – this should be relative information that shows you are making progress towards your goals • Can use this opportunity to highlight your best work/favorite assignment/class(es)…. • Why? What did you learn? • Transcripts • This should be in your portfolio, but you don’t need to share/show during your presentation • Can include a SMALL image of your transcript in presentation
Arts & Awards • Projects • Certificates • Awards • Academic • Sports • Scholarships • WASL/HSPE Certificate(s), EOC or SAT/ACT Scores
Citizenship • Leadership & Volunteer Activities • Community service hours and activities • Where and what did you did? Why did you choose this? • What was your favorite activity? Why? • Voter’s registration (optional) • These show you are a productive member of society – that you see a need and step up to fill that need: perform civic duties, help others, help in your community, belong to your community
Employability From your portfolio • References • Letters of recommendation • DO NOT read these • Resume • Sample application
Future Plans • Personal Statement • DON’T read this – paraphrase, summarize… • Future Goals • 5th year plan • Where do you plan to be in 5 years, 10 years and beyond • Should probably NOT include personal things like marriage…. CAN include desire to travel, etc.
Culminating Project • MAJOR part of your presentation • Tell about it • Who/where you did your project/mentorship • What did you do? • What did you learn – good and bad • What you liked/didn’t like • This is where you can state that you changed your future plans because of your mentorship – not exactly what you want to do… and why… • Visuals!!!! Need photos to document… Visuals always draw your audience in
Closing Notes • Close with your future plans – everything you have shared leads up to your future • Restate your goals • Summarize your presentation • Ask your audience if they have any questions – be prepared to answer them. Remember you made them curious • The sign of a good presentation is for your audience to have questions – even if you go over your time { Reminds your audience what you shared with them
Dress for Success • Dress professionally – if your chosen career wears professional clothes – dress the part (Dressing for success); if your chosen career wears a hard hat, bring one and dress as you would on the job – in CLEAN clothes • Avoid perfumes/colognes – can be too strong in close quarters. • If you have piercings/tattoos, cover them up – this is like a job interview
Final Notes • Before you start, set up a separate folder for presentation and documents/files • Back up your presentation – save often and have at least 2 working copies (server and USB) of presentation and at least 1 previous copy • Consider saving your work as drafts w/dates so you always have a back up should something happen… Plan for the unexpected… • We can always delete drafts – takes less time (& stress) than recreating
Final Notes • Don’t sweat the small stuff, prepare and practice – If you are organized your presentation will be smooth, you will appear informed, poised, prepared, and professional earning higher marks
Reminders • We need your baby photos and class photos for slide show IMMEDIATELY • Due no later than April 30 • Different photo for video? • Wallet (school-appropriate head and shoulders) for wall • Biography information (cards) for graduation
