Cont…. Biography on Edgar Allan Poe Poe married his cousin, Virginia, in Richmond in 1836. When they got married he was 26 and she was only 13. Virginia died in 1847. A year later in 1848, Poe got engaged to his teenage sweetheart from Richmond, Elmira Royster. Poe died on October 7, 1849 in Baltimore, Maryland.
My Theory on Poe’s Death I think that Poe died from alcohol. He had a bad drinking problem especially during Virginia’s illness. He had poor nutrition and a weakened condition that could of allowed delirium tremens to occur. Also , he drank a lot in the past which means he could have been drinking before he died.
FAVORITE POE STORY My favorite story by Poe was the Masque of the Red Death. In this story there was a disease called the red death and the prince decided to lock the gates of his palace to prevent it from getting to him and his people. Months later he throws a fancy masquerade ball. He decorates the rooms by painting them colors.
CONTINUATION ON FAVOREOTE STORY There was a blue room witch represented birth, purple was the beginning of growth, green was youth, orange was the summer and autumn of life, white was age, violet was darkness, and black (with scarlet windows) was death. At midnight a new guest appears but he is dressed more ghoulishly then everyone else . The prince follows the guest until they reach the red room and then he dies along with everyone else at the ball.
Conclusion How is Poe like the “father of the modern day horror story? Did you make any connections with his life or stories? Did you enjoy his stories….why/why not?
