  2. 1. Find a common base. • 96x+3 = 1/27 • The common base here is three.

  3. 2. Simplify using that base. • 96x+3= 1/27 • Now looks like this: • (32)6x+3 = 3-3

  4. 3. Simplify your exponents. • To do this, multiply the exponents. • (32)6x+3 = 3-3 • Becomes • 312x+6= 3-3

  5. 4. Eliminate the bases. • 312x+6 = 3-3

  6. 5. Now, work with the exponents. • 12x+6 = -3 -6 -6 • 12x = -9 12 12 X =-9/12 OR -¾
