Definition • A level of attention where the focus is so strong that visual differences may not be noticed. • Also when there are multiple interpretations and only one is perceived Eskimo or Native American?
Do you see a cube missing a section? Or two cubes facing different ways?
Cocktail Party Effect • When in a crowded room, a person can focus on one voice amongst the chatter and noise • When two voices are simultaneously played, one will only be able to recall volume and sex of the second voice. • When your name is spoken, it is heard over almost all other noise
Inattentional Blindness • If we are told to focus on a specific subject, we may not notice other visual stimuli. • Change blindness • People do no notice small changes when focused • Choice blindness • People don’t notice difference between what they picked and what they were told they picked
