  2. Intro • Sleeping problem that causes people to get up and walk while sleeping • Occurs in deep stages of sleep • Unable to respond while sleepwalking • Does not remember sleepwalking

  3. Symptoms • Range from quiet walking to running • Eyes are open with a glassy blank look • Responses are slow or absent •  If person returned to bed without awakening, they usually does not remember the event

  4. Causes • Different factors may be involved in the development of sleepwalking • Genetics (occurs more frequently in identical twins) • Environmental (sleep deprivation, stress, alcohol) • Medical conditions (abnormal heart rhythms, fever, nighttime seizures)

  5. Treatment • Drugs that can be prescribed for sleepwalkers • Such as a low dose of benzodiazepines • Clonazepam • Tricyclic antidepressants
