What to Expect with LEED Version 4 Carrie Webster, LEED AP BD+C Maureen K. Roskoski, SFP, LEED AP O+M
Outline • LEED V4 Major Concepts and Changes • What This Means For You
LEED v4: IMPROVED ENVIRONMENTAL OUTCOMES
LEED Certification Trends LEED v4 SYSTEM GOALS
MARKET SECTOR ADAPTATIONS • Data Centers • Warehouses and Distribution Centers • Hospitality • Existing Buildings for Schools • Existing Buildings for Retail • Homes Multifamily Midrise
LEED v4 TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENTS: INTEGRATIVE PROCESS Highlights: New BD+C credit (outside of other categories) to encourage synergies between disciplines and systems. Requires documentation that multiple disciplines have been involved in early design discussions on energy and water efficiency.
Performance in Location and Transportation LOCATION AND TRANSPORTATION
Highlights: • New credit category to improve alignment between commercial rating systems and LEED ND. • More performance-based credits with improved ties to anticipated outcome. • bicycle facilities must link to bike network • quality alternative transit – consider trip frequency, walking distance • selecting a high priority site (dense/diverse area, away from sensitive receptors)
Performance in Sustainable Sites SUSTAINABLE SITES
Highlights: New credit for site assessment (BD+C). Stricter standards for rainwater management (BD+C). Major simplification to light pollution reduction creditthrough new option for BUG rated equipment.
Performance in Water Efficiency WATER EFFICIENCY
Highlights: New prerequisite focuses on measuring water use through fundamentalbuilding metering requirements. Additional points in credit for metering of subsystems. Addressing all water uses including fixtures & fittings, process, appliance, cooling towers, and outdoor water.
Defining Performance in Energy & Atmosphere ENERGY AND ATMOSPHERE
Highlights: New prerequisite - building level energy metering required for all projects. Minimum Energy Performance: 5% above ASHRAE 90.1-2010 for BD+C. Minimum ENERGY STAR score now 75 for EBOM. New credit for Demand Response.
ENERGY CODE PROGRESS LEED v4
Materials & Resources MATERIALS AND RESOURCES
Highlights: Life cycle thinking approach to category, at building and product level. More credit for multiple attributes of a material. Focus on product transparency and outcomes through building disclosure & optimization credits. New BD+C construction waste option for waste minimization.
Highlights: Category focused on key indicators of air, light, sound, and occupant experience. More performance-based credits focused on health and wellbeing outcomes (e.g. - material emissions instead of VOC content). New credit (BD+C) for acoustics.
