*PRAYER OF CONFESSION L: Lord Jesus Christ, you used your hands to heal, to lift up, to bless, to sow kindness and tenderness in desolate lives.
P: Forgive us when we keep our hands at our sides when we could be reaching out in love. L: Lord Jesus Christ, you used your hands to bear the burdens of others and to feed the hungry.
P: Forgive us when we use our hands to take care of ourselves without any thought for those who are hungry and thirsty.
L: Lord Jesus Christ, you used your hands to welcome and to include those who were considered outcasts in the society of your time. P: Forgive us when we clench our fists and exclude people simply because they are different from us.
L: Lord Jesus Christ, open our hands and our hearts to love as you loved and to care as you cared. P: Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us to include in our prayers and into this fellowship all those who feel
excluded and different. Forgive us when we don’t accept all people as you accept them, as people made in the image of God, and precious to God. We pray this in your name.
ASSURANCEOF PARDON L: This is the Good News, friends: God’s love has no ending; God’s hope rests upon us each day; God’s forgiveness restores us to new life.
P: Our God listens to us – to our cries, and to our joys; to our hopes and to our hearts. Thanks be to God, we are forgiven. Amen.
PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 5:21-34
When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered round him; and he was by the lake. Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet and begged him repeatedly, ‘My littledaughter is at thepoint of death.
Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.’ So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She hadendured muchunder many
physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, ‘If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.’
Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my clothes?’ And his disciples said to him,
‘You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, “Who touched me?”’ He looked all round to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him thewhole truth.
He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.’
SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 6:27-36
But I say to you that listen, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do notwithhold evenyour shirt.
Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love yourenemies, do good, and lend,
expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!
