Presentation # 6A News Story from Your Country or a Personal Experience New Rule: Write or show the topic of your presentation on the board or overhead, and tell the class what you are going to do. (A headline in this case.) Pick one: Choose a recent news story from your country. It can be a big story or a small one, a national one or a local one. Think of an interesting experience that happened to you and tell it like a story to the class. Consider these questions: Who, what, when, where, why and how. Start at the beginning, end at the end.
Preparing The Speech Every speech has 3 parts. What are they? 1) Introduction 2) Body 3) Conclusion Which part of the speech should you prepare first, second and third? 1) Body 2) Conclusion 3) Introduction
Prepare the Body • The body usually contains 3 or 4 sections. • Each section is called a subtopic and is connected to the topic (or purpose of the speech). To prepare the body, (1st) brainstorm a list of all the possible subtopics that relate to the topic.
Example Topic: “Applying for a Job” What subtopics (ideas) can you brainstorm that relate to this topic? • Choose appropriate clothes • Behave politely during interview • Write a resume • Find a job to apply for • Schedule appointments • Get a flexible work schedule • Learn new skills
Example Topic: “Having a Happy Marriage” With a partner, can you brainstorm/take notes on several ideas related to this topic? 1. Good communication/Respect each other 2. Work/Jobs/Money 3. Shared Interests/Values 4. Age matters/doesn’t matter 5. Both willing to compromise 6. Love – Romance?/Trust/Honesty 7. Children are necessary/unnecessary?
