Pronunciation • One of the most important aspects of Letters and Sounds is the correct pronunciation of sounds within words • For example ‘m’ ‘s’ ‘t’ ‘n’ • Video
Every Day… Children are provided with: • Opportunities throughout the day to engage independently in speaking and listening, reading and writing activities across the curriculum • An interactive, multi-sensory phonics session, which is age dependent • Opportunities to hear a wide range of stories, poems, rhymes and non-fiction
High Frequency Words • Historically taught as sight words, we now call them tricky words as they do not contain phonetically regular GPCs • These are taught independently with emphasis being placed on the tricky aspect, and these are words which children just need to learn how to read and write
Our Setting • In Nursery, we focus on enabling the children to distinguish between sounds, such as musical, bodily and environmental • Alongside this, on entry to Reception, the children will be taught four separate phonemes per week, with consolidation on a Friday • Around the classroom are some of the resources and activities which we use daily to teach your children listening skills, with a particular emphasis on Phonics
