  2. Our Goal • Create a student research living environment that is a continuously evolving sustainable show piece for living and learning at RPI

  3. Concepts • Refurbishing of the Burdett Avenue Residence Hall (BARH) with attention to: • Environmental Impact • Educational/Cultural Impact • Economic Impact

  4. Educational & Cultural Impact • Multi-disciplinary Studio Projects • Include all majors • Take advantage of existing project courses such as IED • Include yearly L.E.E.D. certification projects by students • Beautification Undergraduate Research Program (BURP), or Green URP • Communal Garden and Kitchen • On-line energy usage – each floor and whole building • Sustainability Exhibition Center

  5. Environmental Impact • Energy-efficient building envelope • Ecovative (mushroom) insulation • Efficient and supports RPI start-up • Non-toxic materials • Composting • Resulting compost can be used in garden • On-site gray water reclamation

  6. Economic Impact • South facing passive solar windows • Photovoltaic (PV) Panels • Solar water heating • Passive cooling instead of air conditioning
