Cool and Random facts! • Did you know that we are moving at the rate of 530km a second? WOW! • Any liquid floating in space will form itself to make a sphere. The reason it does this because of its surface tension! • You can remember this little rhyme, “My (Mercury), very (Venus), educated (Earth), mother (Mars), just (Jupiter), served (Saturn), us (Uranus), nine (Neptune), pizzas (Pluto).”
Sun • The Romans used to call the sun “Sol”. In ancient Greece, the sun was called Helios. • Without the sun’s light we would not be able to see anything. • The sun shrinks five feet every hour! • Did you know that the sun evaporates about a trillion tons of water every day.
Mercury • The max temperature on Mercury is 465 degrees Celsius. • The min temperature on Mercury is –184 degrees Celsius. • If you went to Mercury then it would change your weight. Example: If you weighed 70 pounds on Earth then you would weigh 27 pounds on Mercury.
Venus • Venus is one of the two planets have not got moons orbiting it. • Venus is the only planet in the solar system that spins clockwise. • There are more volcanoes on Venus than there is on any other planet.
Earth • Earth is the only planet that humans can live on because of the low oxygen on other planets. • The Earth is not a perfect sphere it is called a oblate spheroid.
Mars • The biggest volcano in the solar system is on Mars, it is called the Olympus Mons. • Out of all the planets in the solar system, Mars is the one that people believe is most likely to contain life. • In 1938 a radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells caused a panic In America.
Jupiter • Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system. • Jupiter is a mixture of lots of different colours as you can see by the picture. • Jupiter’s moon, Ganymede, is the biggest moon in the solar system.
Saturn • Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system after Jupiter. • Saturn is so big that the earth could fit into it 755 times. • 1 year on Saturn would take almost 30 years on Earth.
Neptune • Neptune has four rings that you can hardly see. • The strongest winds in the solar system are recorded on Neptune, they can reach up to 2,000 kilometres per hour.
Quiz!! Q1. What is the maximum temperature on Mercury? A. 465 degrees Celsius. Q2. Do all the planets in the solar system spin anti – clockwise? A. No, Venus spins clockwise. Q3. Is the Earth a perfect sphere? A. No, the Earth is an oblate spheroid? Q4. Who made a radio broadcast on The War of the Worlds in 1938? A. H.G. Wells.
Thank you very much for listening to my space presentation!
