Early Assessment Program (EAP) 11th graders: Why should you take it seriously? 19
The Early Assessment Program (EAP) is designed to help high school juniors and seniors improve weak areas and polish strong ones by the time they begin taking classes The EAP is administered as a part of the California Standards Test (CST) taken state-wide by students in the 11th grade. EAP testing is not limited to CSU-bound students as 2010 marked the first year that students were also able to authorize the release of their EAP results to California Community Colleges for use in placement. What is the EAP ?
To receive EAP results, students must complete ALL sections of the EAP and State Assessment tests: EAP essay in English ~march 2014 CST for English–Language Arts ~ April 2014 CST for Mathematics ~ April 2014 Algebra II Summative High School Mathematics EAP 15 multiple-choice items in English and/or mathematics Administered with the CST 11th Grade Test In March and April The EAP will continue to provide an early signal of college readiness to rising high school seniors, allowing them to better and more productively use their senior year to gain proficiency if needed
YES!!!! The EAP is considered voluntary BUT SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND BE TAKEN BY EVERY STUDENT WHO HAS THE OPPORTUNITY. 11th graders~Should You take the EAP, if you have the chance?
Take the MC questions at the end of the CST math test in the Alg 2 and Summative math tests. If your not in those classes, you will need to take math in your 12 th grade year. Take the ELA writing assessment in your 11th grade English class in March and then take the MC questions at the end of the CST English test in April. English Math How to participate? You need to do your best every time you take a test! 23
How do they get my scores? • Be sure to "bubble in" the area that indicates that you want your EAP results released to the CSU and CCC. • Always try to do your best as you complete these questions. 24
Beginning with the class of 2013, students who are not proficient in math or "at risk" in English will be required to demonstrate they have started the remediation process prior to enrolling at a CSU or community college campus and possibly any of the UC institutions. Why does it matter if my results show that I am not ready for college this year?
If your scores show that you are ready , then you will have no problem once you are accepted into a CSU or CCC. If your scores show that you are conditional ready or not ready, you will need to take a course in ELA and Math during your 12th grade year that will show you are working on preparation for entrance to CSU or CCC. What will the scores show? 26
