How to build a WIKI in Google sites
For students over 13, who are ready to start building their own wikis . . .
As with all wikis – Create a shell Add pages Add content Add users Add content . . . Etc.
How to build a WIKI in wikispaces
As with all wikis . . . Add pages, add content, add users, etc.
Will generate a username and password, but also creates an email address (just for wikispaces). Teacher will be emailed a list of usernames and passwords
Which WIKI should you use? • Under 13: PBWorks • + Teacher-created members without needing email accounts • + Students learn to add content, collaborate, publish, etc. • Very limited creativity tools • Ages 13 and older: Wikispaces or Google Sites • + Students learn to create and manage an account safely • + Students add content, collaborate, publish, etc. • + Students can add widgets, calendars, etc. to their sites • + Many more options to personalize and control a unique “look” • + Google is ALWAYS free, Wikispaces has some cost accounts
