The Use of Bloom’s taxonomy to solve the Wi-Fi problem in AiU Ali Ahmad HamudHossen, Vallee Des Pretres, Port Louis, 99 Al Madinah view, Mauritius (ali.ahmad.hossen@gmail.com) G05 SHL1013 Professional English (15 Decemberr 2013) Timeline & Implementation Strategy Background & Urgency of the Problem Proposed Poster Design • Bad internet connection in AiU hostels • Constant connection to the internet is not always available. • Students cannot complete assignments on time. • Students cannot communicate properly with family and friends • Day 1: Design and production of posters • Day 3: Socialization of program goals • Day 5: Poster distribution • Day 7: Implementation How to improve to internet connection in AiU? Below are shown some of the ways this could be done Image Here Main Image Here Projected Challenges & Solutions Statement of the Problem & Proposal • If a student faces any difficulty in understanding the poster, they can feel free to contact me via ali.ahmad.hossen@gmail.com or come to my room in M5-L4-R11 I will, in 7 days design an informative poster that will show at least 3 ingenious and creative ways (WHITSON GORDON) to improve Wi-Fi connection which both male and female students in AiU can follow in order to have a fast and secure connection to study. Image Here Assumptions of the Study • AiU students both males and females can follow the pictures explained in English text.. • Posters can guide students in using 3 ingenious ways to improve the internet connection. • A poster display in each hostel can encourage the students to try these methods References 1. Controlling bandwidth hogging applications. 3.Boosting your wifi with a bit of hacking. 2. Improving a router’s signal by using a soda can. Image 1 courtesy of www.lifehacker.com. Image 2 courtesy of www.something.com. Image 3 courtesy of www.lifehacker.com Statement of the Thesis Theoretical Background Methodology Using principles Bloom’s taxonomy to gather knowledge, analyze, implement, create and evaluate a visual poster guide can all male and female students in AiU or the persons managing the network to use 3 creative ways to provide a faster and secure internet connection which can help students complete assignments on time. • Bloom's Taxonomy was created in 1956 under the leadership of educational psychologist Dr Benjamin Bloom in order to promote higher forms of thinking in education, such as analysing and evaluating, rather than just remembering facts (rote learning).(Bloom, 1956, para. 01). This part contains detailed instructions that students can follow to reproduce the same results. The wifi hotspots that requires the most attention will be identified. 3 very ingenious ways to improve the connection will be provided. The three-step poster is tested and evaluated with the help of students. Photographs are taken and used on a poster. The poster is reproduced and posted in each hostel. Research Questions Theoretical Application • Can AiU students from various cultures understand examples shown in pictures with English text? • Can posters guide students in improving the internet connection in the hostels? • Can a poster display in hostel help motivate the students to try out those methods? • Can the theory of Bloom’s taxonomy prove effective to solve this problem? • During Day 3, the socialization process, program aims can be explained and submitted for approval by AIU students who are considered as beneficiaries. • Benefits can help convince the beneficiaries to distribute the posters (Day 5) and to implement the program (Day 7).
