D&D Motor Info • These motors are designed and manufactured in Syracuse NY, USA, by 40 year professionals. Marketed as performance upgrades for golf cars, NEVs, and off-road buggies, Thunderstruck Motors sees their potential in a wide range of vehicle platforms. We've already put them in a large boat, an industrial truck, mountain climbing dune buggy, hot rod motorcycles. . . what's next?SepEx • <<What does the Separately Excited topology mean?>> • These motors are similar to the series wound ADC motors we've seen; they have the same dimensions and no permanent magnets. But instead of having the motor field in series with the armature (and carrying armature current), the field is a separate electric circuit that is controlled independently by the controller. This allows the controller to alter the field strength as needed by the load; so at low speed the field strength is stronger, providing maximum torque. Then, as speed increases and armature current falls, the field weakens to optimize efficiency and allow the top speed of the motor to increase. • As a bonus, the field is reversible, allowing re-gen braking! This reverse field then allows for reversing of the motor shaft without the need for external contactors or switches
