Languages as a subject choice • You can… • travel with ease • see the world from another point of view • improve your ability to learn other languages • improve your thinking skills • study them at third level as a major or minor and improve your degree grade with a relevant subject for employment • use a high grade from Leaving Certificate alone to get a summer job abroad or a job in a multinational company in Ireland

  3. Courses for which French is necessary… • Commerce/ Business with French • Law and French • Arts • Applied Languages/ Translation & Interpreting • Some political science courses with an international component • Useful for UK applications regarding Speech and Language Therapy or Primary School Teaching (where you can study Primary Ed. with MFL)

  6. French is the language of… • Food • Fashion • Philosophy • Business in Canada, Africa, Switzerland: three important markets • Diplomacy and international relations: official language of the EU and the UN • An excellent base to learn other languages like Italian, Spanish and Portuguese

  7. The exam • Higher and ordinary level • Compulsory oral exam (you have the option to bring a documentthat you prepare in advance) • There are questions on listening, reading and writing in the June exam • The oral takes place in March/ April worth 25% for HL and 20% for OL
