Resultant force • Resultant force is the sum of the forces acting upon an object. • If the resultant force of an object is zero the object is stationary. • If it is not zero the object begins to accelerate in the same direction as the force • (Acceleration depends on the force applied and the objects mass)
An object may have several different forces acting on it, which can have different strengths and directions. But they can be added together to give the resultant force. This is a single force that has the same effect on the object as all the individual forces acting together
When all the forces are balanced, the resultant force is zero. In this case: a stationary object remains stationary a moving object keeps on moving at the same speed in the same direction Weightlifters strength GRAVITY The weight stays stationary
If the gravity force is larger than the weightlifters force the weight will drop down Weight lifter Gravity The weight drops down.
If the weight lifters force is larger than the gravity’s force, the weight is lifted! Weight lifters strength Gravity
