  3. The skills, attitudes and behaviors that constitute protective factors need to be nurtured over time. Helping in this development is one of the most important contributions a parent can make.

  4. Risk factors are far easier to correct when you address them from the outset. Protective factors nurtured from a young age will establish themselves deeply by adolescence.
