Geodetic Network Measurement • Link Cavern Geodetic Network • Radial position: based on the best fit line of the LowB triplets • Vertical position: based on the Deep Reference on Left Side • Last Network measurements: • Aug-September 2005: • Complete measurement of the cavern network • February 2006: • Direct link between left and right side of the tunnel through the RICH2 bore tube. • September - December 2006: • Last possible direct link between left and right sides • October 2006: VELO position measurement • May 2008: • Opening of the RB84 shielding • Control of the link (mainly vertical) between the cavern network around the VELO, • the left side LowBetaquadrupoles and the Deep Reference • In this period: Change of the Network coordinates (VELO area) < 0.5mm (average) • No Left/Right direct link possible since 2006 • LowB quad smoothing done in the mean time LEB Meeting - EDMS n° XXXXXXX

Conclusion • The Cavern Geodetic Network measured several time from 2005 to 2008 seems stable • But adjustment for smoothing can be applied to LowB on left and right sides • Radial link LowB / Network measurement: • No Left/Right direct optical link possible since 2006 • When RB84 Shielding is opened: • Survey Left side / Network in VELO area is possible • Precise levelling measurement from Deep Reference to VELO area • Radial control -> Not precise (lever arm) • Note that a HLS System allows level monitoring between Left and Right triplets • One of the sensors is in the cavern but on Muon side: • Far away from the VELO region • Difficult to measure the link HLS sensor/Network near the VELO • Along vertical axis: Survey tolerance 1,5mm at 2 sigmasapplicable • For radial position it was the case on 2006 – Now ? • Study of position and stability using Primary Vertex reconstruction? -> LHCb LEB Meeting - EDMS n° XXXXXXX
