What I already know. • I already know that West Nile Virus started out as a small outbreak in 1999!! • The death toll since 1999 has surpassed 100, with more than 80 people dying this summer. • Man is not West Niles only victim. The virus has sickened horses, squirrels, and birds. • West Nile tends to strike people in their 50’s or older and those with compromised immune systems.
What Do I want to Discover? • I want to discover The total number of deaths from West Nile Virus since 1999 ? • What is the best way to reduce the risk of West Nile Virus ? • What are you supposed to do if you get the Virus ?
The Story Of My Search. • I chose this topic because I had an incident at my grandfathers farm that had to do with west Nile Virus. • Then I went to library and learned where the reference books were. • I then went back to the classroom and got all of my information. • After that I started my power point an have got a lot of my information from SIRS Discoverer. • I am also learning to do a non-linear power point.
My Search Results. • As of 1999 more than 30,000 people in the United States have been reported getting sick with West Nile Virus!! • Don’t spend to much time outdoors during prime mosquito hours, around dusk and dawn, one more is Wear long sleeved, loose fitting clothing, etc… • A mild West Nile Virus will improve on its own, If you have severe WNV, such as severe headaches or confusion seek medical attention immediately.
My Growth as a Researcher. • I learned how to use powerlibrary and am now a lot better with it. • I learned how to make a non-linear PowerPoint. • I now know how to hyperlink. • And learned a lot more about West Nile than I already know.
