Editing and Peer Response • Norton’s Field Guide to Writing • Simple Online Editing • When I am introduced to new people they generally ask me what I do for a living. My answer is, “I work as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department(ED)”. >invert This is often rebutted with statements like; “How do you stand to do that?”, “What is the grossest thing that you have ever seen?” and, “How often do you really save a life?” . Usually I just come up with some small, impersonal statement like, “Someone has to work there, and I usually enjoy it”. I answer in this way because most people would probably be shocked by what I really think it means to save a life. • There may be some ethical differences in my opinion of what constitutes a life and what others consider life.>I’m not sure I quite understand this When I think of life, I mean a quality of life that makes the person living it happy or at least satisfied. I don’t think that it is wrong to try everything humanly possible to save a person when they are brought in to the ED. What bring up the ethical dilemma is the question, “What will we be saving?” Where I work, when a person is brought in coding, they have usually come from a distance that means poor first response time and poor outcome. No matter the circumstances, I always do my best to use all of my training and skill to save that persons life.>#10 Yes, there are many times when my care has been part of saving a life that without intervention would eventually have been lost. Honestly, there has only been one event, during my short carrier, when I can honestly say that a person’s actions directly, because of what they did, saved another person’s life.>this is a bit vague
