Primary Care OnlineWhat’s in it for me? Clinical and GP Practice perspective Presented by Peter Short – Clinical Lead GP, HSCIC – GP in Buxton, Derbyshire
What is it? What will it become? • No ‘standard’ terminology or definition • ‘Technologically enabled’ innovation • Meeting the needs (& wants) of patients, clinicians and service commissioners • Unconstrained by time and place • Communication and information • Person centric
Why now? • Public expectation • Opportunity with digital records • ‘Choice and openness agenda’ • System capacity – transfer to increasing informed self-care • Health & Social Care efficiency • Supporting clinical care • Interaction with patients
For my Practice • Online medication requesting works • Online appointment booking and reminders work well • Online Records Access is offered, but we are unconvinced of significant benefit & demand is low • Secure communication is our next target • Sharing with other care settings by patient consent is a high priority • Parallel services available for those not ‘online’
