  5. Georgia mom shoots home intruder in the face five times with a .38-caliber revolver By: Adam Edelman A home invasion in Georgia last week ended with the hapless intruder getting shot five times in the face by a frightened mother holed up in the closet with her 9-year-old twins. The harrowing incident began Friday afternoon when an unexpected visitor began knocking at the door of a residence in Loganville, Ga., about 30 miles east of Atlanta. The woman who lived in the house didn’t answer, and when the man began furiously pressing the doorbell, she called her husband, who called 911. The woman, whose name authorities are withholding, then got a .38-caliber revolver she kept in the house and gathered her young twins and hid with them in a closet inside the house, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Seconds later, the man at the door, later identified by police as Paul Ali Slater, broke into the house with a crowbar and began ransacking the house.  Slater soon came upon the upstairs closet where the three were hiding and opened the doors, only to immediately be shot five times in the face and neck by the woman. “He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  “The guy’s face down, crying,” Chapman added. “The woman told him to stay down or she’d shoot again.” The Loganville, Ga., house Slater broke into. The wounded intruder stumbled out of the house, attempting to flee in his car, but crashed into a nearby wooded area and collapsed in a neighbor’s driveway as he attempted to exit the car. The woman, meanwhile, fled to a neighbor’s home with her children. The three escaped unharmed. Police arrived soon after and Slater, who is reportedly clinging to life, was arrested at the scene. The incident is a timely example for gun-advocates claiming that lawfully carrying a weapon can actually increase public safety.  Gun proponents have always stood by their claim that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. And there have been other examples where having a gun around, has, in fact, protected the user of the gun from something terrible. Last January, a young woman in Oklahoma shot and killed an intruder to protect her baby. Edelman, Adam. "Georgia Mom Shoots Home Intruder in the Face Five times with a .38-caliber Revolver." 7. Some Seek to carry on Campus “You’re not going to walk in to a room and pull a gun if you think everyone else has a gun,” said ChazNeeler, a UNCC junior. Students are participating in the protest at nine colleges and universities in the state, including UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. State and Elon University. The idea has been met with some mixed reviews. "Carrying concealed weapons and guns on campus, I think it can lead to bad things especially if you get into disputes and violence,” said Sam Fulmer, a UNCC freshman. Argued Neeler, "it would allow them to make sure they are safe by allowing us to take care of each other, as opposed to relying on the police force here which, while they do a fine job, they simply are out-numbered." According to the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus web site, more than 25,000 people support the organization’s efforts. UNCC campus police aren’t taking a position on the issue. They did issue a letter to students asking them to respect the opinions of those conducting the protest, but if they see someone carrying a weapon to call police. CHARLOTTE -- The gun rights debate is taking aim this week at university campuses across the country, as a group of students say they should be able to carry a concealed weapon on campus. To illustrate their point, they have been wearing empty gun holsters around school. Every morning before work, Jennifer Solesby arms herself for the day by arming herself with a weapon. But when she heads to UNC Charlotte, the gun can’t come with her.

"We have a lot of crime at UNC Charlotte,” said Solesby, who feels she has a way to help campus police cut down on that crime – allow students to carry concealed weapons. “Those who have been deemed competent to carry concealed by the state and federal government are stripped of that right to protect themselves when they come on campus.” This week, students at UNCC and others throughout the state and country are protesting by going to class wearing the empty holsters on their waists. The movement started after the recent school shootings like the one at Virginia Tech last year. To illustrate their point, students have been wearing empty gun holsters around school "News14.com." 12. Boulder man grabs gun from invader in his homeby Kevin Vaughan BOULDER, COLORADO -- A gunman forced his way into a Sugarloaf Road home early Sunday, terrorizing a family before one of his hostages grabbed his pistol and turned the tables on him. Investigators suspect the gunman had been drinking before forcing his way into the home, which was occupied by a man, his wife and their grown daughter. The gunman tied up the couple with strapping tape, ripped phones from the wall and sexually assaulted one of the women. Several hours later, the husband regained control of the home. "The suspect set the gun down and he grabbed it," said Boulder County Sheriff George Epp. Sheriff's officials identified the gunman as Nathan Melikidse, 25, of California. He was jailed without bond on suspicion of sexual assault and burglary in the random attack. Another man arrested outside the home in a stolen car, identified as Robert Foltin, 33, was being held on $20,000 bond, suspected of being an accessory to the crime. The trouble started about 5:30 a.m., when a man banged on the door of the home in the 9800 block of Sugarloaf Road. He forced his way inside. About 6:30 a.m., the husband was able to break free from the strapping tape and call 911 on his cellular phone. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the home, they knocked on the door but got no answer. Later, deputies made a second attempt to make contact with someone in the home. At that point, the husband grabbed the gunman's Ruger 9mm pistol and took control, and his wife and daughter ran from the home. Deputies then arrested Melikidse. They suspect that Melikidse stole a car in California and that he and Foltin traveled to Colorado together. Melikidse allegedly stole the pistol earlier in the night in a burglary on Four Mile Road, and he also allegedly stole mail from mailboxes in the area. Vaughn, Kevin. 17. The Story How dangerous is hitting a deer? They were traveling north of Sterling,MI.48659 , on M-76 between Alger and Standish. Oncoming car clipped a deer and sent it straight up into the air. The deer came down head-first into Clayton's brand new truck on M-76. The deer's head went thru the front windshield, cutting the head (plus some) off, and landed in Jill's lap. The body of the deer flipped up, smashed in the top of the truck, and landed in the bed. Clayton couldn't see Jill from his side, because the top of the truck was smashed in so horribly. He got out of the truck, went around, and opened the door on her side...only to start flipping out, because she was literally drenched in blood. However, neither one of them was hurt. Her parents were following in a separate vehicle and didn't see it happen..but drove up on it right afterward. I can't imagine what they were thinking!
