  2. What started the idea ? • Mayor’s Task Force on Recycling (2003) • Dallas way behind other cities in recycling • Few in Dallas even knew about blue bag program • Aim to improve recycling efforts for Dallas for a CLEAN GREEN Dallas

  3. Goals set by Task Force • Double participation in recycling households from 25% to 50% • Quadruple recycled tons • From 10,000 tons to 43,600 tons each year • Average household to increase from 6 to 30 lbs per month for a CLEAN GREEN Dallas

  4. Task Force Proposal • Use Big Blue roll cart • Single-stream recyclables • Implement Once-a-Week service • Provide broad educational effort for a CLEAN GREEN Dallas

  5. Where We Are Today • Introduced “Big Blue” last January • Too Good To Throw Away • Dallas doubled its recycling tonnage ! • People know about the program • Halfway to goals … for a CLEAN GREEN Dallas
