  1. Welcome! 3rd grade Back to School Night Mrs. Jackson Room 16 ***Please hold your questions until after my presentation – I may answer them during my presentation! 

  2. You may have noticed that I am expecting a baby soon! • I plan to be here as long as possible, but I may be leaving in the next couple of weeks. I’m being watched by my doctor for high blood pressure. Due date = Sept. 30 • Amber Thompson will be the substitute. She will be here through December and I will return January 12th (when we all return from winter break).

  3. About Mrs. Jackson • 5th year at Discovery • Married for 4 years • Love pigs and dogs! • Westmont College

  4. Daily Schedule • 8:45 – 9:15 – Math Warm-up/Attendance/Business Items • 9:15 –11:00 – Language Arts/Reading groups • 11:00 – 11:20 - Recess • 11:20 – 12:50 – Math • 12:50 – 1:35 – Lunch • 1:35 – 3:10 – PE (M, Th), Writing, Music Library

  5. Homework • Reading – 30 minutes, 4 nights a week ***reading log – I check for 4 logs/week ! (checked on Friday – please do 4 parent signatures) • Math – Dreambox and Ten Marks (computer/online) • Math – T, W, Th – 1 word problem to complete and discuss the next day

  6. Support Classes • Library – Tuesday – 1:40 – 2:05 • PE – Monday/Thursday – 1:35 – 2:15 (alternate Wednesdays) • Music- Friday – 1:40 – 2:10

  7. Behavior • Positive reinforcement and praise! • Clip chart for individual (purple = extraordinary – 2 bonus shots, green = great – 1 bonus shot). No shots for yellow, orange, or red. Weekly reflection – log it each day – home on Friday, back on Monday • Team points – homework pass for team with the most points • Marble jar – class decides what they want to do!

  8. Consequences • 1st time – verbal warning • 2nd time – clip moves down and lose 5 minutes of recess • 3rd time – clip moves down and lose all of recess • 4th time – clip moves down and phone call home • Severe disruption – referral – visit to principal

  9. Water bottles • Please allow your student to have a water bottle, as it cuts down on the “traffic” by the water fountain. • Water is also great to have on PE days! • ONLY water is allowed – no juice, soda, etc.

  10. Wednesday • Every Wednesday is a shorter day. • Students get out at 2:10!

  11. Friday Envelopes • Important papers will be sent home each Friday. Please look through the folder and empty it. • Students return the empty folder on Monday. • In the Friday Envelope, please include the signed weekly reflection!!

  12. Star Student • Sharing sack (items and photos) 3 items in bag, 12 photos • Favorite book Students read to the class • Parent letter Shared with the class about your student

  13. Dr. Appointments • PLEASE try to make any doctor or dentist appointments in the afternoon. • Mornings in our classroom are filled with important reading time and groups that are very difficult to make up!

Email or phone call to set up a meeting! Let’s find a time that works for both of us!

  16. Misc. • Grading – 4, 3, 2, 1 • Monday November 17th- all day parent teacher conferences! (afternoons 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st) • Website – lots of helpful information about our classroom. • Birthdays – wellness policy – no food (can do pencils/erasers, etc.)
