Overview: • Generic Name: moxifloxacin ophthalmic • Active Ingredient: moxifloxacin hydrochloride • Company: Alcon, Inc • Date of Approval: November 19, 2010 • Treatment for: Bacterial Conjunctivitis Bacterial Conjunctivitis A bacterial infection of a portion of the eye known as the conjunctiva . Common symptoms include redness of the eyes with a thick, often coloured purulent discharge.
Moa : Moxifloxacin is a member of the fluoroquinolone class of anti-infective drugs. it inhibits the topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. (g+) (g-)
Usage & indication • Moxeza solution is a topical fluoroquinolone anti-infective indicated for the treatment of conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms: Aerococcusviridans, Corynebacteriummacginleyi, Enterococcusfaecalis, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus sp., Streptococcus sp., Escherichia coli, Haemophilusinfluenzae, Klebsiellapneumoniae, Propionibacterium acnes, Chlamydia trachomatis
Off-lable uses - to treat bacterial eye infections other than conjunctivitis - to prevent any type of eye infection, such as a post-surgical eye infection.
:Dosage & administration • Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 2 times daily for 7 days Apply light pressure to the inside corner of the eye (near the nose) after each drop to prevent the fluid from draining down the tear duct
Precautions and important information: • It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria only. Do not use Moxeza if you have had an allergic reaction to it or other similar medicines in the past • Do not use other eye drops or medications during treatment with Moxeza unless otherwise directed by your doctor. cont.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Moxeza. Ask your doctor if contact lenses can be reinserted after application of the medication • Moxifloxacin ophthalmic should only be used during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk. • Do not touch the dropper to any surface, including the eyes or hands. The dropper is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye
Moxeza side effects: • Serious side effects are not expected to occur during treatment with this medication. • Some eye burning ,irritation ,fever ; or blurred vision may occur. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities
