Why Equalities Matters to SDS Legislative mandate: Public Sector Equality Duty • eliminate discrimination • advance equality of opportunity • foster good relations in different groups of people with protected characteristics The recommendations set out in: • Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce report, • Scottish Government’s Developing the Young Workforce: Scotland’s Youth Employment Strategy
MA Equality Action Plan Address under representation and gender segregation • Disability-increase the employment rate for young disabled people to the population average by 2021 • Minority Ethnic- increase the number of MA starts from minority ethnic communities to equal the population share by 2021 • to reduce to 60 per cent the percentage of MA frameworks where the gender balance is 75:25 or worse by 2021 • improve the number of care leavers who successfully take up MAs.
Improving participation • Working to develop referral pathways with our Partners including SAMH to offer to all our providers support • Challenge funded projects for Providers and third sector organisations eg Concept Northern • Supporting employers to take positive action eg Falkirk Council to recruit disabled people onto the MA programme
The EF ASN Access Fund This ASN Fund is intended for use in overcoming specific barriers to participation and addressing the identifiable additional needs arising from a condition, disability or vulnerability in some participants. The aim is to provide funding to support these individuals by contributing resources which meet these additional requirements for people who have been assessed as ready for EF Stage 2-4 provision.
Examples of support BSL interpreter for induction and some course work and assessment, Adjustable desk for a wheelchair user Hire of a lighter weight wheel chair Specialist coaching for an autistic client to sit LGV test Vibrating alarm that shakes bed Software and Livescribe pen for dyslexic client RNIB JAWS software, LCD magnifier screen, specialised keyboard
