Economic Trends • The gap between wealthy, middle, and the poor has grown nationally • Past & future employment growth in Maryland & Baltimore remains concentrated in health, business, professional, and high tech • Construction & trades are projecting labor shortages

National Labor Force • US labor force will be guided by: • Pace of technological change • Shifting demographic patterns • Quickening rate of economic globalization • Boomers may be delaying retirement • Technology will require a highly skilled workforce

Education Trends Education Trends (locally): • Baltimore Co. school enrollment will decrease from 2000’s to 2014 as the country ages • 13.7% of students receive special education services • The state average tuition rate increase from 2003-05 was 7% for Community Colleges • 4 yr. college or university average tuition raise was 16% for state schools, 20% for private institutions
