The Customer Challenge • All the IT infrastructure, WAN and Internet connectivity requirements of ABG is provided by ABMCL, ABG’s centralized body. As part of the services, it provides centralized mail system and internet access by proxy servers to all the employees of various companies in ABG. The primary challenges being faced were: • Zero server downtime is very critical to the business Mail and Internet access being the most critical entities of doing business, it should have a 24 x 7 availability. Any downtime or lack of capacity in these systems would result in business process and project executions being delayed, bringing bad reputation to the company’s image. The need of more than one server running the application was very much evident to provide a 24 x 7 application availability. • Application clustering for maintaining QoS by Load balancing and ease the capacity planning It was felt that a horizontally scalable application architecture is more resilient in handling load spikes and makes it pretty easier to plan for future capacity requirement. The load spikes can be easily handled by distributing the incoming load equally to all the servers, thereby maintaining the QoS for each user. Capacity enhancement will become just a matter of adding one more server to the cluster, without even shutting down the service. • Achieved Six 9s uptime of service • Improved Application Speed • Improved the User Experience • Hardware Consolidation Result
