Presumptive Test • If the test is positive, blood may be present and further analysis of the residue may provide additional information • The disadvantage of the test is that it is presumptive • Chemical and plant oxidants from sources other than blood will produce a positive result
Luminol • Luminol powder is mixed with hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle • The mixture is sprayed on the area to be examined for blood • The iron in blood speeds up the reaction between the peroxide and the Luminol causing the Luminol to glow
